Ballindooley Castle    ~   Galway City   ~   Other Suburbs

The castle is presumed to have been built in the late 15th century (approximately 1480). It is a Norman castle and was probably built by the DeBurgo (Burke) Family. The first written record of ownership was to a Redmond Regough Burke.

It has the distinction of having been shelled by the British gunboat Helga during the 1916 uprising.

The castle was restored to its current grandeur in 1989. At the time the current ownership purchased the castle, it had been vacant for approximately two hundred years. Restoration was completed in 1990.

Its 15th century grandeur has the addition of a few 21st century conveniences such as a modern kitchen, bathrooms and laundry facilities.
